(IT-NEWSWIRE.COM, April 14, 2015 ) WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – Google is constantly evaluating and evolving its search algorithm to provide the most accurate answers to a user’s search; as such, it causes many internet marketing tactics to change.
Essentially, this means tactics that may have worked last month may no longer work, and tactics that worked a year ago may definitely not work. In fact, these old tactics may result in a negative impact to your overall SEO.
In any instance, a webmaster that does not evolve with the latest Google trends may lead a website straight to its grave. Of course, there are a few things we can do to troubleshoot our SEO if we notice our website is not generating the results it once did.
To begin, we should always make sure our website it being indexed. To do this, simply type your URL into a Google search like “www.cballadvertising.com” – If your website URL appears, then your site is being indexed; however, if it does not, your website is likely not being indexed.
This problem can easily be solved by creating or modifying a robots.txt fie, which will provide Google with information on how to crawl and index your website.
According to Matthew Meyers, President of Cannonball Advertising Firm, “One of the first things we do when we launch a client’s website is create a XML sitemap and Robots.txt file to assure the website connects well with Google” and that “This is a necessary piece of internet marketing, and should never be overlooked.”
If indexing is not the issue, we must check to see if our site was hit by a Google penalty, such as the Penguin or Panda. To do this, we can look at our Webmaster Tools to see if there are any alerts that indicating that “black hat” practices are being used on our site. This may include cloaking, hiding navigation, or any other method attempting to deceive Google to achieve higher rankings.
If there are no warnings present in Google Webmaster Tools, it is likely that the Penguin or Panda has struck your site. In the case the Panda has struck your site, it is likely that you have low-quality content, broken links, bad grammar, duplicate content, or other factors. While it may be difficult to recover from the Panda update, it is possible by focusing on providing high quality content, and correcting all errors.
When it comes to the Penguin update, this can be corrected by identifying bad links. Once these bad links have been identified, you may use the Google link disavow process to disassociate your website with these poor links.
Lastly, Google recently announced that on April 21, 2015 it will include mobile ranking factors in its algorithm, which means that webmasters must begin to focus on user experience to ensure we do not miss out on mobile traffic.
