Digital Camera. Regardless of the high school graduate's next step in life, they will want to document this new phase in their lives with many pictures and videos. Instead of searching for a camera that seems to be "the best" in performing all functions of a camera, search for a camera that will best suit the needs of the high school graduate. A reasonably-priced digital camera will not excel within the categories of picture quality, performance, features and design, but rather will exceed expectations in 1-2 categories while performing average in other categories. This gift could require the high school graduate to be present during the purchase time to ensure its functionalities are on par with what he/she wants out of a digital camera and the camera itself.

If the high school graduate will be using it primarily as a dorm room or bedroom decoration, a digital picture frame with minimum tech features and a USB port and a slot that supports memory cards should suffice.
Fitness Tracker. Upon graduating from high school, new schedules and routines will occur in the graduate's life. This would be an ideal gift to encourage making/maintaining a healthy lifestyle, especially if the graduate will soon frequent the dining hall and not be as active as they once were due to academic responsibilities. The type and level of fitness the high school graduate engages in will greatly influence the fitness tracker purchase. If the graduate's primary activity is walking and not a lot of other physical activity, there are great options in the $49-$149 range.
