The company did offer a three-month replacement warranty. As of late Stunning Gadgets' official blog had no mention of the sale but people that purchased items at the sale were mostly those that had originally subscribed to receive newsletters. But many others managed to make a purchase in time via word of mouth. Prices were seemingly slashed by 70% which triggered a buying frenzy.
There are many businesses that use flash sales every now and then either to clear old stock or to just get a boost in word of mouth online. Though much of the sales are announced via an official social media page or blog Stunning Gadgets opted to do it through just people that willingly subscribed for the company's newsletter which had an immediate sales boost of the Pocket Chainsaw. It is also important to keep in mind that the company does not make much mention of the benefits associated with subscribing for a newsletter and on average people can expect to receive any type of promotional mail just once a month. So, perhaps the purpose of triggering a flash sale via just people that had subscribed was to increase subscriptions which is going to be part of a larger campaign.
"We had the flash sale mainly to just see what kind of response we would get. Obviously, we knew how good the response would be but we just wanted to see if our subscribers were active and if so how active were they. Our data clearly shows that up to 70% of our subscribers are active with more than half who took advantage of the flash sale. This is very good news for our subscribers because we are planning to have many more similar events in the future. The sales will be unannounced and short lived." said a senior executive at the company "It is hard to predict when the next sale will be held, but it may be sooner than later...that's all I can say."
Stunning Gadgets is rumored to have sold over five thousand units in the two hours alone. Though it will be interesting to see just how much the company managed to earn from the sales. Maybe the quarterly report will reveal actual figures.
