Soulunar is a fitness company that specialises in fitness and running accessories for women Ms Smit said, "We chose to support Cotlands because we strongly believe in their mission which is ‘Cotlands provides children with effective, high impact health, psychosocial and early learning play based development opportunities to help them thrive.'" She added "Our donation will contribute directly to a childcare facility in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. We chose the Eastern Cape region as it is home to one of our brands, Shakti Shanti Yogawear"
Cotlands began its life in 1936 as a sanctuary for abandoned babies. Matron Dorothy Reese was at her home in Mayfair, Johannesburg, South Africa, when she found an abandoned baby on her doorstep. Ms Reese decided to keep the child and raise it and so Cotlands was born as an institution which looked after abandoned babies.
Cotlands has changed its vision over the years and now helps children in five provinces in South Africa, touching the lives of over 8,000 children between the ages of 0 and 6. Cotlands tries to help children and their families by supporting them within their community through various outreach programmes.
Cotlands is always looking at different ways to raise money to fund its efforts. Corporate sponsorship and personal donations are always very welcome, no matter how small. Volunteers are always needed to assist in the various projects. Cotlands also provides instruction on how to make simple toys which can be donated to the children to help them reach developmental milestones. This can be a fun team building exercise for the workplace. There are many ways to help this wonderful organisation which is building a future for disadvantaged children in South Africa.
